If what you heard before giving your life to christ was a story of hell then you need to update your salvation, if all that the the person that preached the gospel to you emphasized was how much of a sinner you are then you need to update your salvation.All the people who came to Christ through a message of condemnation,and threat of hell have not yet heard the gospel the best they can do is to live holy lives.
Unfortunately, christianity is not about sin(sin is the problem), It is not even about righteousness(righteousness is very necessary but it is just the path to the main thing). If you read the bible you would realize that christianity is all about our inheritance(the blessing) which we would enjoy on this earth and then in heaven, st peter said that we are called to inherit "the blessing" and st. Paul said in Galatians chapter 3 that Christ died on the cross so that the blessing of Abraham might come upon us, the blessing of Abraham is "the blessing" that st Peter talked about. if your christianity is not about the blessing then in sorry to say that you have not heard the gospel, please go to the book of genesis and see the blessing giving to Abraham.
Secondly st. Paul was speaking in 1st Corinthians 9:17 and he said "......the dispensation of the gospel committed to my charge, Paul was preaching the message committed to him but today men of God are preaching the message committed to Paul instead of them to find their own message, Dear minister make sure the gospel you preach is a personal revelation and not an imitation of the original
The gospel is gotten from a greek word "euaggelion" pronounced ("you ghel eeion") which when interpreted means "a good news" it is also said that the word gospel was coined out of two words "good"(since it is a good news) and "spell"(since it had a very powerful influence on those who heard it) hence "good-spell", and was later called gospel for short. The gospel is a very good news that is very insightful and attractive, so that even unbelievers can't resist it, and it also has a very powerful influence on those who hear it, anything outside this is not the gospel.
5 THINGS THE GOSPEL DOES:
1. IT REVEALS GOD AND HIS GRACE..
2. IT REVEALS WHO YOU REALLY ARE TO YOU: The bible says that we were created in his image, but we could not see that image until Christ came,the bible says that Christ is the image of God, so when God said that he created us in his image he actually meant that he created us to be like Christ, and when we look at Christ we see who we truly are.
3. IT REVEALS OUR PURPOSE AND LIFE'S ASSIGNMENT TO US: After seeing Christ and discovering ourselves,we then come to realize what we can do, what He created us to do, and what we should do.
4. IT REVEALS OUR DESTINATION AFTER OUR ASSIGNMENT HERE ON EARTH: Thus we know that we would go straight into heaven once our assignment here is over, please if you church or religion doesn't give you the assurance that you would make heaven, then i advise you to either change church or change your religion.
